Lucas came home from the hospital today!

Lucas started getting very small quantaties of milk pumped into his stomach on Wednesday. So now we are back on the rollercoaster ride of one day doing good, the next day throwing up, etc. Today he didn't have any milk during the day, because he was recovering from a bad day yesterday. He was going to start on the milk again at 7:00 this evening, so tomorrow I will see how he tolerated it. Please pray that his intestines will kick in and start digesting the milk!

Making Progress

Lucas moved to the "Nutrition Room" this afternoon. Basically the goal there is to make sure he doesn't lose weight, and that he starts to gain weight when they start feeding him milk. The doctors still haven't given me any idea about when they will start the milk, but I hope for some more information tomorrow. Lucas continues to be his smiling, little self!

Today Lucas was doing much better. He even gave me a half-smile and talked with me a little. I am very happy! Also while I was there he had a dirty diaper... I never thought I would be so happy to see a dirty diaper! I had to go home early today becuase they were working on the plumbing and cut off the water in the hospital. I was a little disappointed, but it gives me a chance to spend some time with Nate.

Update on Lucas

Friday morning, Lucas was still sleeping a lot and just waking up to cry a few minutes before sleeping again. But at the end of the day, he woke up and I played with him for about 20 minutes before he started fussing and wanted his pacifier. Then Manuel came in and I had to leave. Manuel talked with the doctor, and he said that Lucas is stable, but it would probably be 5 days before Lucas can start eating. Patience!!!

Lucas´ Surgery

Lucas went in for his last surgery at 10 this morning. He came out around 1pm. The surgeon said that everything went well, but there are several areas that could potentially get infected. Lucas is on an antibiotic and will be monitered for that. I was able to be with Lucas as he came out of the anesthesia around 3pm. Around 5pm he was taken upstairs to an intensive care unit. We met with the doctor in charge of his care and then stayed with Lucas until 7. He is somewhat sedated and has tubes coming out of everywhere.

Tomorrow I am going up to the hospital for a meeting with a nurse at 10am. Then I will be able to be with Lucas until 5pm. Manuel will be allowed to be with Lucas from 5 until 6. However I hope that sometime tomorrow Lucas will be moved from intensive care to the room where we started at... there both of us can be with Lucas from 11am until 7pm.

Maybe you need to be a mom to fully appreciate the significance of my accomplishments yesterday...

I woke up at 6:30, got myself ready, and started getting the boys dressed in their "twinkie" outfits... vests knitted by my mother-in-law and sweaters she bought while on vacation.

9:00am... looking half-way decent and carrying the supplies needed for the rest of the day.

We were the first ones to arrive at church... a first since Lucas came home!

Baptisms before church started...

I didn't get a picture of Bible class, because right in the middle of the craft I discovered that Lucas' colostomy aparatus had completely leaked onto all of his cute clothes. Oh well!

After church we had a long wait for chinese food...

...and then we went to my in-laws for the rest of the afternoon. By the end of the day I was ready to crash! Thank goodness for my little helper who volunteered to give Lucas his bottle!

Thank goodness for nap time...
